Through generous funding from the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal (FRRR), Local Leading Ladies, Tumut and Tumbarumba Business Chamber, Reignite Performance Coaching, MIQ Private Wealth and Commins Hendriks Solicitors - Pointer Remote will be running a Remote Work Capacity Building Program in the Snowy Valleys region.

The ongoing drought conditions, recent fires and now COVID-19 are impacting the social and economic outcomes of the Snowy Valleys region. This Program was initially established to support businesses with a lack of access to skills and for individuals looking to access work remotely, but in light of COVID-19, the Program will now focus on supporting businesses and individuals who are managing people or working remotely for the first time.

The Program will support business owners/managers/leaders who are managing employees remotely for the first time. It aims to develop the skills, strategy and confidence to engage with their remote employees effectively. The Program also aims to build capacity in individuals working remotely for the first time, to build confidence and acquire the skills to work remotely effectively.

The Program will take place over a six week period and is run virtually in the form of workshops, webinars and e-Learning. There are places for 10 businesses and 15 individuals and there is a commitment fee of $150 + GST to be involved in the Program.

Each participant with be involved in the following:

  • Remote Work Virtual Workshop - facilitated by Pointer’s Founder Jo Palmer

  • Completion of an online, self-paced e-Learning course over the six week period

  • One webinar

  • A second Remote Work Virtual Workshop - facilitated by Pointer’s Founder Jo Palmer

All sessions will be recorded and access given to participants. An online group will also be established for participants to stay engaged and connect with each other as well as with the facilitators.

The project takes a number of approaches to foster job security, generation and engagement in the region;

  • By supporting and building capacity in business owners in the Snowy Valleys to manage staff remotely

  • By building confidence and capacity in individuals working remotely to look to remote work as a means of re-engaging with the workforce

  • By facilitating peer to peer learning (between the cohort) to create an online community of business owners and individuals. This will enable participants to offer practical support, gain insights and solve problems from each other.

  • And into the future, businesses will then to look to remote work as an option to engage skills remotely (that are not accessible in their community) into their organisation to in turn grow and engage more employees ‘on the ground’
